Advanced Animation Loglines & Script:
An Assassin and a Bard Walk into an Inn....
Logline: An Assassin is forced to team up with a pacifist Bard in catching a dragon at a local inn, in return for a free night stay.
This was originally meant to be a 3-4 minute short film, however due to time constraints I'm doing a proof of concept/trailer that contains the first 1-2 minutes of the original animatic.
An Assassin and a Bard Walk into an Inn...
Scene 1 : Forest path to the Inn
Black screen, offscreen voice ; light music beginning to play
The Bard:
You don’t know how glad I am to have someone on this quest with me!
Shot of two characters walking, only legs shown ; An Eagle and a Dragon creature
The Bard:
I have so many lovely tunes to share with you!
[Bard still speaks offscreen, but his shadow is shown cast over the Assassin, who looks up in annoyance]
The Bard:
With both of our skills, I’m sure we’ll soothe that dragon in no time!
[Proper reveal of The Bard, shot moves up to emphasize his stature ; The Bard leads/drags The Assassin through the forest]
The Bard:
Poor fellow must be so grumpy, cramped up in that room. How big do you think that fellow is....
Voice fades out as Assassin starts mental monologue
The Assassin:
Why am I with this Bard? I work solo, why did I even agree to this?
[Flashback ensues ; Location : Village ; Zoom shot of the help wanted poster
The Assassin & Bard:
This is going to be easy!
[Assassin replies enthusiastically as The Bard enters, not fully in frame ; Line is said in unison ; Cut back to the forest / current time ;Highly detailed/shaded close up shot of The Assassin’s face]
The Assassin:
Oh right I’m BROKE. And now I’m stuck with this PACIFIST. What is he even blabbering on about again?
The Bard:
[Voice fades back in] The poor things must be so stressed! I’d hate to have to drag them down all those stairs…
[Assassin is looking down at the hands shown in the previous shot, before pulling knife out ; Walking slows to a stop]
The Assassin:
Shouldn’t take too long though, once we’re done with that drag-
The Bard:
Oh no need for the knife! I know all the sweet songs necessary to soothe the large fellow!
Establishing shot of the large inn, with the characters talking in the foreground
The Bard:
And look! Seems we’re in the right place!
Scene 2 : Inn Hallways / Inn Room
[Establishing shot of the Inn’s Hallways]
The Bard:
So according to the Innkeeper, the dragon should be in that room down the hall.
The Assassin:
[Uninterested] Not seeing a lot of destruction here, some Dragon…
Ominous shot of the dark room as the door is slowly creaking open ; Eyes glow in the dark. The duo open the door to the Dragon’s nest, revealed to be a baby dragon ; the room is in disarray with the lights off
The Assassin:
Oh wow that thing is tiny.
The Bard:
[Ecstatic] It is!
The Bard picks up his bagpipes and enters the still dark room, light coming from the hallway
The Bard:
Oh I have the perfect melody to soothe this little soul-WAIT NO HOLD ON A SECOND
The Assassin rushes in for the kill; The Bard frantically turns on the light ; The Bard pulls The Assassin aside
The Bard:
Let’s just take a moment to step back and breathe! There’s no need to murder a baby, right?
The Assassin:
[Angry Mumbling]
The Bard:
Why don’t we try a much more gentle approach to this, hm? This baby is probably just in their teething stage, let’s be friends with it!
The Dragon playfully attacks The Assassin, who screams out in terror ; The Bard looks on obliviously
The Bard:
Awww, see? I think they’ve taken a liking to you!
